The Global Movement on Children (GMC) was launched in the run-up of the "UN Special Session on Children" in 2001 as a way to ensure public and civil society mobilisation and grassroots support to children and child rights issues.
The movement works through campaigns, raising awareness on various child rights issues with the common vision of creating a world fit for children. Campaigns include for example "Lessons for Life", a campaign to accelerate a response to the growing number of children affected by HIV/AIDS; and "Every Child's Right to Health", designed to create pressure on leaders to meet commitments made on health care for children.
Various SOS Children's Villages associations in different parts of the world have taken part in GMC campaigns and are active members of their local chapters.
