Mariana García Perez has been working as an SOS mother at SOS Children's Village Jocotán in Guatemala for 25 years. She is a mother with "mucho amor" for the children, a mother with all her being. In this interview, she talks about motherhood, her wishes for other mothers, and Mother's Day. Trips to town always triggered awkward feelings in the freckled eleven-year-old. They reminded him of white coats and the cold touch of stethoscopes as it was only for doctor's appointments that he ever left his native village in the mountains. The last trip scared him for he knew he wasn't going back. Local economic conditions in some countries do not always make it easy for youths to succeed. But with perseverance and hard work, one former SOS youth from Bo made it… Although he is only eight years old, Sergio has been expelled from school six times. He was an abandoned and neglected child, but today he is making good progress and is living a much happier childhood thanks to the support offered at SOS Social Centre Engenho do Meio in Brazil. In mother Pirozhka's house, in SOS Children's Village Kecskemét in Hungary, the dining room is often quite messy, but don't worry too much, as there is an artistic explanation. |
