Company-organised activities have been shown to boost team spirit among staff and strengthen relations between management and employees. This involvement also has a "ripple effect" with the beneficiary children and communities: employees feel a real connection to those they helped and can see tangible results from their efforts.
The Fortis Challenge: employees enthusiastically help children
Fortis is an international financial services company with more than 60,000 employees. In early June, 600 employees got together in the Austrian Alps to participate in the
Fortis Challenge, which is designed to promote corporate social responsibility while also boosting company cohesion, morale and pride. Arriving from 20 different countries, the employees helped raise more than € 270,000 for SOS Children's Village Hemeiusi, Romania. The Fortis Challenge comprises a range of outdoor sports and tests of strategic and intellectual skills. This year, 160 teams competed in the qualifiers, with 75 actually making it to the Challenge in Austria. The team that raised the most for SOS Children's Villages will travel to Romania later this year to view the work done at the Heimeiusi children's village.
