What are sponsorships?
A sponsorship is an earmarked financial contribution made regularly by an individual donor or an organisation/company as a means of supporting children on a long-term basis.
More than 500,000 people, mostly children, in 132 countries and territories benefit from SOS Children's Villages and supporting facilities. Sponsors, through their regular contributions, help ensure the organisation's financial stability and the children's well-being, education and integration into their local community.
What kind of sponsorships does SOS-Kinderdorf International offer?
At present, SOS-Kinderdorf International offers 2 kinds of sponsorship: child sponsorships and village sponsorships; we offer village sponsorships with offline or online servicing.
How to become a sponsor?
If you choose to become a sponsor, you can do so by signing up for a sponsorship or requesting information via email donor.services@sos-kd.org.
How long does my sponsorship last?
Our aim is to build lasting relationships with our sponsors and guarantee financial support for our children and facilities. By taking on a sponsorship you do not enter into a binding contract: a sponsorship can be cancelled, in writing, at any time, without having to give a reason or any advance notice.
What costs are covered by the sponsorship contributions?
With your contribution, you are helping to cover the living costs of the children living in the SOS Children's Village. Your support helps us meet their daily needs, and guarantees that they receive medical assistance and education. Most SOS Children's Villages have supporting facilities such as SOS Kindergartens, SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools, SOS Social Centres, and SOS Medical Centres attached. Hence, your contribution makes it possible that children in your sponsored village receive all-encompassing care and assistance. These supporting facilities are built if the infrastructure of the communities surrounding the village is insufficient, and the neighbouring communities also benefit from the services offered there. In addition to that, your contribution helps us support neighbourhood families in need through so-called family strengthening programmes, which aim at preventing children from losing the care of their family.
What does SOS Children's Villages do to protect the privacy of children in the village?
The children's right to privacy and the need to observe data protection laws are paramount and this means that there are certain sorts of information (sensitive information about the child's background, for example) that we choose not to include on our website without changing the names to protect children's privacy.
It is also essential to pay attention to protecting the rights and dignity of the sponsored children, in particular their desire not to be put on show to the public.
Can I get a receipt for my contributions?
The tax authorities in most countries only take receipts for donations into account if they are for a contribution made in that country. Since SOS-Kinderdorf International receives most contributions from abroad, we acknowledge donations but do not issue receipts.
