Helmut Kutin is to officially open the SOS Children's Village Morelia, which was financed as part of the FIFA/SOS campaign 6 villages for 2006, in the Mexican state Michoacán in the presence of many guests.
FIFA and SOS Children's Villages jointly carried out the campaign 6 villages for 2006 during the FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany. The one-off global fundraising campaign was a complete success. By the end of the World Cup, the small and large donations that had been made meant that there was enough money to finance six new SOS Children's Villages for around 800 children.
And something that is perhaps even more important: enough financial resources have been collected to finance the projects in , , , , and Morelia for five years. Kindergartens, schools and social centres mean that 5,000 more children and 1,000 more families can receive support in all six locations.
Morelia was one of the SOS Children's Villages that was built the most quickly. The first 16 children were already able to move into their new houses with their mothers in September 2006. The village in Morelia is expected to be full by the end of this year.
