The concerns, needs and problems faced by children worldwide will be discussed at the highest political level at the UN General Assembly in New York. Themes and issues relevant to all children and young people will be debated and discussed in a number of forums, meetings and in the plenary sessions.
Priorities and goals will be set for a future in which children and adolescents are respected and seen as equal members of society, whose interests are protected, taken into consideration and are the subject of a genuine political commitment. One of the key aspects on the agenda will be the significance of children and young people in building a peaceful society.
Originally planned to take place on 19 - 21 September 2001, the UN Special Session was postponed following the tragic events of 11 September and has been rescheduled for 8 -10 May 2002 at UN Headquarters. SOS Children's Village representatives from different countries will take part at the General Assembly and the supportive events.
Details on SOS Children's Village participation, reports and a final resume will be published in our "News from the World". If you have subscribed to our newsletter, you will receive the latest news automatically. Further information can also be found on UNICEF's website
