The future. Visions. The year 2000. Why do we want to work on our future, why are we striving to shape it? Is it our fear of the unknown? Is it the need to affect the way of the world instead of letting things happen? Are we worried about ourselves? Or is it that we want to create a better world with justice for all?
Next year (1999), SOS-Kinderdorf will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Time to look back and take stock of the past 50 years. But also time to look ahead, to face the challenges of both today and tomorrow and to tie them into our own experiences. Time to become aware of one's own fear, but also of one's own values and possibilities.
Experts from a wide variety of professions accepted our invitation to discuss how to shape the future in a constructive and fruitful way. The result is a complex journal with manifold approaches to the question of which capacities, competencies and visions we need in order to be prepared for the third millennium, as an organization, as a society, as men and women.
