Creating and maintaining a caring and protective environment

SOS Children's Villages is committed to creating and maintaining a caring and protective environment for children. Every one of us has the responsibility to protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination. This has always been at the centre of our work.

Every child has the right to quality education, participation, non-discrimination and develop to his or her full potential. Yet, every child is potentially at risk of abuse and exploitation. Some girls or boys may be more vulnerable to this, due to various forms of discrimination and marginalisation relating to their socio-economic status, gender, disability, ethnicity, caste, or living situation.

Our child protection policy: Binding for all SOS Children's Villages associations

Our child protection policy is binding for all the SOS Children’s Villages associations. Be it within or outside of our organisation, it guides us to always respond to any case of proven, alleged or attempted abuse, within our sphere of influence and according to its nature.

Attention to prevention and response to child abuse

The SOS Children’s Villages’ child protection policy gives specific attention to prevention and response to child abuse within our programmes. Internal mechanisms are in place to raise awareness, to assist in prevention, including training and counselling of staff, to encourage reporting of cases and to ease response.

In our work with families, communities and national authorities, we encourage the protection of children’s rights.

Child safety is everybody's business
