 Children who are admitted into an SOS Children's Village normally have suffered a lot in terms of distress and the loss of loved ones. They are confused and filled with sadness. They slowly have to learn again what it means to laugh, to gain confidence and to make friends. Often, it takes a very long time for the wounded soul of a child to heal. More... Children become adolescents. They grow up, want to stand on their own two feet, want to do things on their own, want to make a career or continue to go to school. The adolescents remain either in an SOS Children's Village or in a youth institution until they are able to live their own life autonomously. More... The journey can sometimes be very long, with many stops on the way. Eventually, the children arrive at an SOS Children's Village. It is here that they find a caring SOS mother, brothers and sisters - the shelter of a home. Now normal life can begin for them - with everything that is part of it such as kindergarten, school, laughter, quarrel, family life. More... One day, the time arrives for the young man or the young woman to leave the SOS Children's Village or the youth institution. Most of them continue to keep in touch with their SOS mother and their carers after leaving the facility. The SOS mother often sees her children again when they visit her in the village, or the family of one of her children offer her to stay with them when she retires. More... |
