"Tracking Footprints"

In 2001 the international long-term project Tracking Footprints was launched. It was designed to investigate into the experiences of people who lived in an SOS Children's Village facility (SOS adults). A major goal is to learn from the recommendations and views of the SOS adults in order to develop the educational work further.

Tracking Footprints

By conducting interviews with a standardized questionnaire the study seeks to obtain information from former SOS children: on their current living situation (e.g. marital status; educational and professional development, health) and satisfaction with it, their experiences during their time in the SOS Children’s Villages facilities, and their recommendations as experts on how to improve the pedagogical work of SOS Children’s Villages.

Between 2002 and 2003 twenty countries all over the world participated in the project. By the end of 2008, more than 70 countries will have completed the study. In 2006, the questionnaire was modified, putting more emphasis on life satisfaction. The Global Report 2002/2003 is available in the download section and provides information on the results of the study.

In 2007 the global Tracking Footprints Team carried out a small survey in order to learn more about how results were used in the different countries. The report can be found in the "Downloads" section.

Results will be used on two levels - the national and the global level. On the national level, the countries try to use the results in order to further improve the educational offer provided by SOS Children's Villages. On a global level, a report will be compiled by the end of 2008 and the results will be discussed within the global management as a basis for decision-making in regard to educational topics.

It is planned to reconduct the project every five years in order to monitor changes.
