Doubí is a suburb of Karlový Váry, which is a very well known traditional thermal spa town, and is situated about 120 kilometres west of Prague. It has a population of about 70,000 inhabitants, and its very attractive wooded surroundings are a popular destination for hikes and walks. Karlový Váry offers a great variety of cultural events to both its local population and guests. The SOS Children's Village of Doubí is located about 10 kilometres from the city centre of Karlový Váry; the children attend school in Karlový Váry and also get medical assistance in this city. The official opening ceremony of the SOS Children's Village Doubí took place in June 1970 in the presence of numerous guests of honour.
The SOS Children's Village Doubí consists of twelve family houses with rooms for the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave), a community building, a pedagogical and psychological counselling centre, a workshop and a house for the village director. Additionally, a playground and a sports field have been created. Up to 78 children find a new home in the twelve SOS family houses.
The SOS Youth Facility in Karlový Váry also belongs to the SOS Children's Village Doubí; a total number of 27 youths can live there during their vocational training or higher education and prepare for an independent life.
