Czech's third SOS Children's Village is situated in Medlánky, close to the city of Brno in Southern Moravia. Brno (approximately 400,000 inhabitants) is the second largest town in Czech Republic and is located about 200 kilometres south of Prague. It is the cultural, political and historical centre of Moravia. The SOS Children's Village Medlánky is located at about twenty minutes driving distance from the city centre in a middle-class area.
The SOS Children's Village Medlánky comprises nine family houses, a village director's house with flats for co-workers, a community building including rooms for SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave), an activity house for workshops for children, a multipurpose building with rooms for the psychologist and pedagogue and an administration and service area. A playground has also been added. Up to 59 children can be taken in and find a new home at SOS Children's Village Medlanky.
The tenth family house in Medlánky is currently been used as an SOS Youth Facility for the youngsters from SOS Children's Village Chvalčov, who can stay there during their vocational training or higher education and prepare for an independent life.
