Bolluça is a small town with more than 1000 inhabitants. It lies at a distance of approximately 35 kilometres west of Istanbul, the country's cultural and economic centre. Bolluça is a suburb of the European part of Istanbul. The city, historically also known as Constantinople, is the only metropolis in the world which is situated on two continents: Europe and Asia.
The SOS Children's Village Bolluça comprises 11 family houses with a capacity to take in up to 84 children, houses for the village director and the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave), a multi-purpose building and an administration and service area. A sports field has also been laid out.
The SOS Kindergarten consists of two group rooms and can accommodate up to 30 children. Both children from the SOS Children's Village and from the neighbourhood attend the SOS Kindergarten, which greatly contributes to the integration and acceptance of the SOS Children's Village by the local community. Youths who have already outgrown the SOS Children's Village, move to the SOS Youth Facilities. The three SOS Youth Facilities accommodate about 45 youngsters, who stay there during their vocational training or higher education and prepare themselves for an independent life.
