Programme Investment & Learning Advisor (f/m/d)

Location: Innsbruck or Vienna/Austria  

SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organisation we help children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for children’s rights. We work in 136 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year. 

 

Mission 

The aim of this position is to support the mission of the Programme Management by contributing to the development of programme investment processes, within the broader frame of Evidence, Investment & Learning. This involves driving the development of programme investment processes and initially leading a project to elaborate the future programme investment approach within programme management. The Investment & Learning Advisor keeps an overview of these processes, manages them, serves as the main contact point for key stakeholders who are involved in or have an interest in programme investment, and provides relevant information (e.g. status reports). S/he contributes to the collection and sharing of insights and learning on relevant programme topics, including building connections between programme investment and learning. 

 

Tasks and Responsibilities 

Drive the ongoing development of programme investment processes 

  • Lead a project on the programme investment approach 
  • Define programme investment responsibilities in the International Office (IO) 
  • Provide guidance to the Regional Offices for the transition of certain responsibilities  
  • Define the connections between programme investment and evidence and learning  

Coordinate tracking of programme investment processes 

  • Consolidate information on status of programme investment activities across regions 
  • Compile regular global reports  

Serve as main point of contact for counterparts in the Regional Offices for programme investment topics and cross-regional funding frameworks 

  • Plan, coordinate and follow-up programme investment activities with regional counterparts 
  • Plan and conduct regular networking calls with regional colleagues 
  • Provide technical support and capacity building for counterparts within regions 

Serve as main point of contact for the funding associations  

  • Prepare a clear prioritisation proposal for relevant programme investments with the involvement of stakeholders 
  • Provide status updates on programme investment projects  

Act as main point of contact with other stakeholders involved in programme investment processes 

  • Regularly inform, consult and align with all relevant stakeholders 
  • Ensure appropriate links to and alignment with related processes  

Contribute to the collection and sharing of learning on relevant programme topics 

  • Continuously explore how to identify and extract insights and learning from programme investment-related processes and support the generation, analysis and use of programme-related evidence 

 

Requirements 
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant field of study, such as finance, business management, social development, community development, child and youth development or social sciences 

Essential:  

  • At least 5 years of experience of project management and programme development in an international NGO 
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to work in a structured approach 
  • Proven ability to drive processes and content development 
  • Ability to work independently, but to proactively escalate emerging issues early on 
  • Proven communication and (virtual) collaboration skills across different cultures 
  • Strong planning and organising skills 
  • Strong in customer service orientation and in managing multiple stakeholders 
  • Good strategic thinking skills 
  • Excellent English language skills. Further languages (Spanish, German or French) are an asset 
  • Willingness to work in Innsbruck or Vienna (Austria) as working location 
  • A valid Austrian working permit or eligibility to work within the EU 

Desirable:  

  • At least 3 years of experience working with SOS CVI in programme and/or finance 
  • Knowledge of SOS policies, processes and programme approach 
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and trainings
