Equipping young people with the skills to succeed
Youth employment is a global challenge – and one that particularly affects young people without adequate parental care.
For World Youth Skills Day, which promotes the role of skills as an important way to improve young people’s transition to decent work, we are highlighting the YouthCan! initiative. This partnership between SOS Children’s Villages and the private sector supports disadvantaged young people to manage the transition to independent adulthood through access to skills development, mentoring and practical opportunities.
“What I’ve learned is that no matter what situation you come from, there will always be people to help,” says Lusanda, a participant in YouthCan!. By developing professional skills and experience, young people have the tools they need to take charge of their own career – and future.
