Through the National Care Leavers Association Coalition Ethiopia, they are influencing policy, supporting one another, and pushing for the full implementation of new national standards.

Moving from institutions to families

December 23 2025 - At a global care reform workshop in Kigali, Rwanda, organizational leaders and practitioners explored how to accelerate the shift from institutional care to family- and community-based care. The discussions and the signing of the 'Kigali Declaration' reaffirm SOS Children’s Villages’ commitment to care reform that puts children’s rights and wellbeing at the centre.

Rebuilding livelihoods for families in Tigray

December 18 2025 - After fleeing conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, 26-year-old Kidayo returned home determined to rebuild her life with her young daughter. With nutrition support, cash assistance and livelihoods training from SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia, she is regaining stability and working towards a more secure future for her family.

December 17 2025 - African governments have taken a major step forward for children without parental care with the adoption of General Comment No. 10 by the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. The new guidance clarifies State responsibilities and sets a clear direction for care reform across the continent.
