SOS Children’s Villages International appoints new CEO
International organisation’s CFO, Norbert Meder, named as CEO
Norbert Meder has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of SOS Children’s Villages International.
Mr Meder has served as the organisation’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and member of the Management Team since 2013.
As CEO he succeeds Richard Pichler, who served as the organisation’s Secretary General/CEO from 1995 until the end of 2015. In May 2016 Mr Pichler took on a new role as Special Representative for External Affairs and Resources.
Announcing the new CEO on 13 October, President Siddhartha Kaul said:
“Norbert demands high standards, but also leads by example. For the last three years, he has brought strong and steady leadership and has developed good working relationships across the federation. I am certain he will take us forward in achieving our ambitious goals for 2030.”
As CFO, Mr Meder guided the overall finances of the federation and led key global projects, including the establishment of an integrity, compliance and legal unit, and the development of the 2030 strategy for the global federation.
Before joining SOS Children’s Villages International in 2013, Mr Meder accrued decades of leadership experience in global organisations including Daimler Financial Services, the Chrysler Group, and Mercedes Benz.
A German national, Mr Meder has also lived and worked in the United States, Japan, and Austria.
Accepting the position, Mr Meder said, “Children are the future of our world. Growing up in a family with foster children, I learned how important a family is and that not everybody is as blessed to grow up in a healthy and caring environment.”
“During my years with SOS Children’s Villages, I have seen success and passion. It is an honour for me to serve as CEO,” he added.
“I will focus on the development and implementation of our 2030 Strategy to maximize the capacity of SOS Children’s Villages, so that many more children can succeed in life.”
