Protecting children from the effects of hunger crises

As part of the European Humanitarian Forum, the Joining Forces alliance organized a Humanitarian Talk on the effects of hunger on children in the East Africa region. This humanitarian talk allowed inclusive meaningful safe and active participation of children and young people as key players actively contributing to the shaping of humanitarian and resilience-based responses and solutions.

Two months have passed since the 2023 European Humanitarian Forum, where the Joining Forces Alliance Humanitarian Talk took place.

The session turned the spotlight on the hunger crisis and its impact on children and young people in East Africa. It saw the participation of directly impacted children and young people from the region, staff from the Joining Forces Alliance as well as institutional stakeholders that we consider key allies: European Commission DG ECHO and representatives of German authorities.

While two months have passed, their voices and messages are still clear in our minds: the hunger crisis is a child protection crisis, especially for girls, and has to be dealt with as such. Also, in discussing the challenges and finding solutions together, children and young people should take the front seat. You can find below some highlights that were shared, while the full recording of the talk can be found here.
