Rwanda has strengthened child protection systems, yet many children still live on the streets without care or opportunity. Launched in 2021, the Seruka Project helps children leave street situations behind through rehabilitation and family reintegration—supporting thousands across the country to grow up safe, supported, and within their communities.

Through the National Care Leavers Association Coalition Ethiopia, they are influencing policy, supporting one another, and pushing for the full implementation of new national standards.

At a global care reform workshop in Kigali, Rwanda, organizational leaders and practitioners explored how to accelerate the shift from institutional care to family- and community-based care. The discussions and the signing of the 'Kigali Declaration' reaffirm SOS Children’s Villages’ commitment to care reform that puts children’s rights and wellbeing at the centre.
