On September 8, a devastating earthquake hit Morocco, causing thousands of deaths and injuries. Hundreds of families and children in the affected areas lost their homes. The death toll is still rising, and hundreds of children are at risk of losing parental care.

SOS Children’s Villages is on the ground in Morocco assessing the most pressing needs and deploying urgent support where it is needed most, although access to the affected areas is still difficult due to the rubble.

The children and young people have been through a traumatic experience. There are four psychologists and two volunteers in the field to give them the psychological support they need.

SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES' RESPONSE

SOS Children’s Villages is launching an emergency programme to support children and families affected by the earthquake in Morocco. Two lorries of food and blankets have already been handed over to the Mohammed V Foundation, which is managing support to victims. Our focus remains on providing immediate relief and support to those impacted by this tragic earthquake while also considering the longer-term needs of vulnerable children and families in affected regions.
