Official Statement by Mimmo Parisi, Board Chair of SOS Children’s Villages International

 
First and foremost, my heart goes out to all those who suffered because of Hermann Gmeiner’s actions. The truth can never be denied — and by confronting it with honesty and courage, we become stronger and more resolute in our mission to protect and care for children everywhere.

Hermann Gmeiner does not define who we are. What defines SOS Children’s Villages is the tireless work, compassion, and dedication of the countless individuals who believe in a simple but powerful principle: every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable, and loving home.

We, the people of SOS Children’s Villages, embody that spirit every day. Children deserve happiness, dignity, and protection. Those who have betrayed this sacred trust deserve nothing but condemnation and shame for their actions.

I personally denounce Hermann Gmeiner and unequivocally condemn his despicable behavior. At the same time, I want to reaffirm my pride in the extraordinary work being done across our federation — work that continues to bring hope, care, and opportunity to millions of children and young people in need around the world.

As someone whose own life was profoundly shaped by SOS Children’s Villages, I know firsthand the difference this organization can make. I will be forever grateful for the care and love that SOS Children’s Villages provides — and I urge all of us not to lose faith in our shared mission.

Our strength lies not in the legacy of one individual, but in our collective commitment to every child’s right to a loving home. Together, we will continue to build a future grounded in truth, integrity, and compassion.
