The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SOS Children’s Villages International drives the implementation of the federation strategy to achieve the goals of protecting and caring for children who have lost parental care, or who risk losing it. The CEO leads the Management Team, which is responsible for the operational leadership of the global federation.
Norbert Meder was appointed CEO of SOS Children’s Villages International in October 2016. He joined the organisation as Chief Financial Officer and member of the management team in 2013, bringing with him 30 years of leadership experience in large global organisations. Since then, Mr Meder has guided the overall finances of SOS Children’s Villages International, while leading various federation-wide projects such as its 2030 strategic planning and establishing an integrity, compliance and legal unit.
Born in Stuttgart, Mr Meder has lived and worked in Germany, the USA, Japan and Austria. He holds an MBA in Corporate Social Responsibility and NGO Management from the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University. He also obtained a Masters in Economics from the University of Hohenheim.
Mr Meder started his career in the automotive services and parts industry before moving on to Mercedes-Benz. After the merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler, he became director of Business Planning and Competitive Analysis. In 2000, he joined Daimler Financial Services where, in the role of vice-president, he took global responsibility for finance, controlling, risk management and strategy, and later for products, processes and systems.
After more than 20 years in the automotive and financial services industry, Mr Meder decided to retire from the corporate world, study NGO management, and offer his skills, experience and support to the social profit world. “Children are the future of our world. Growing up in a family with foster children, I learned how important a family is and that not everybody is as blessed to grow up in a healthy and caring environment,” Mr Meder said. He is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children through a focus on children and families in need, his co-workers and donors.
