Strategy 2030

Our strategy for the next decade is to ensure the best care of children, innovate, and unite more partners so that no child grows up alone.

Our history of over 70 years has demonstrated that SOS Children’s Villages has been successful in meeting the needs of children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it. We have reached over 4 million children and young people in our target group by building strong bonds with them through quality programmes that are tailored to their individual needs.

While we are proud of this achievement, 10% of the world's children today are still growing up without appropriate parental care. We must boost our efforts and challenge ourselves to strengthen our impact in order to reach more of these children. This is the key ambition of our Strategy 2030.

Over the next years until 2030 we aim to become more successful and continue flourishing as an organization. We steadily build on our values, which provide a solid and stable base for a growing flower.

Three goals are at the heart of our strategy.  In 2016 we set off with two goals. In 2021 a third goal was added to demonstrate our commitment to and prioritization of safeguarding throughout the federation, as well as to transparently reflect our increased work on safeguarding:

GOAL 1. We ensure that many more children have a loving home and an equal chance to succed in life.

GOAL 2. We lead the world's most effective childcare movement to make sure each child has the bonds they need to become their strongest selves.

GOAL 3. We ensure and live safeguarding in our daily actions.

A focus on 5 Priorities from 2021 to 2024 will enable our organization to take advantage of the greatest opportunities to scale up our impact on vulnerable children and young people so that we can achieve the ambitious goals of Strategy 2030.

5 Priorities (2021-2024)

A Strategy 2030 Review project, launched in January 2019, culminated in 5 Priorities to focus our efforts from 2021 to 2024 on improving the quality of our programmes, raising the income to do that, and extending our impact as a result.  These 5 Priorities reflect the results of an in-depth analysis of our key achievements and learnings over the last four years, as well as the trends that continue to shape our external environment, either directly or indirectly. Inputs received through mid-term planning of member associations as well as through joint discussions at the Come Together II meeting of June 2019, also contributed to defining the 5 Priorities.

Priority 1: Ensure programme quality and local relevance

Priority 2: Grow and diversify income

Priority 3: Empower people to live our values and uphold our safeguarding commitments

Priority 4: Build partnerships to scale up our impact

Priority 5: Embrace digitalization
