Assistance to flood victims in Nepal
21/08/2008 - Thousands of people fled their homes on 18 August following the collapse of a dam on the Koshi River in Eastern Nepal that lead to flooding in the area. An estimated 30,000 people are either living on road sides or in temporary shelters, mainly in schools, provided by the authorities. Fortunately, SOS Children’s Village Itahari has not been affected by these floods.
At the official request of the Nepalese government, co-workers from SOS Children’s Village Itahari have set up a small medical unit in a temporary shelter that is currently housing 2,000 odd families who urgently require basic assistance. They are working to provide basic food, water as well as medicine.
