SOS Children’s Villages International Annual Report 2022 just published!

Building resilience in the face of adversity

More than 450 million children worldwide are growing up in a conflict zone. 43 million have been displaced from their homes – and at least 153,000 of them are unaccompanied or separated from their families. By the end of 2022, 10.7 million had lost primary or secondary caregivers to COVID-19.

Our International Annual Report considers the unique issues faced by children and young people growing up without or at risk of losing parental care – especially during this year of polycrisis – and gives an overview of our activities, programme statistics and financial information for 2022. 

The report includes a “Year in review” article about global challenges and how we can support children and young people to build resilience in the face of adversity; an introductory message from Jordany, a young person in Costa Rica, who talks about the importance of role models; and a feature about our work in emergencies. Other highlights include an overview of the reasons for family breakdown; data on our reach and impact; and personal stories from our programmes, written in young people’s own words.

April 18 2024 - The Iranian attacks on Israel on Sunday caused fear and anxiety in the children and young people in our programmes in Israel. A 7-year-old girl was injured.

April 17 2024 - “Keeping children safe is an absolute pre-requisite for SOS Children’s Villages to deliver on our purpose – to ensure children grow up with the bonds they need to become their strongest selves,” writes global safeguarding director Ma-Luschka Jean-Louis in the latest update on safeguarding progress published by SOS Children’s Villages.
