SOS Children's Villages International withdraws from Algeria

By the decision of the International Senate, SOS Children's Villages International's highest supervisory body, the organization will withdraw its programmes from Algeria.

We are especially sad to make this announcement considering the many children and young people supported by SOS Children's Villages throughout its presence in Algeria.

By the decision of the national authorities in November 2022, the Algerian Red Crescent took over the supervision of the SOS Children's Village in Draria and is now solely responsible for the care of the children and young people. We are confident that the Algerian Red Crescent will continue to protect and secure the well-being of the children and young people in the programme. SOS Children's Villages International has requested that the supervisory Ministry ensure that all parties' rights, including children and staff members, are protected.

We recognize the impact on staff members who dedicated their time and efforts to caring for children and young people in the children's village. SOS Children's Villages International's regional office in Dakar will continue its efforts to fulfil its legal commitment to former staff and the protection and well-being of the children involved.
