MOROCCO EARTHQUAKE

DONATE NOW

On September 8, a devastating earthquake hit Morocco, causing thousands of deaths and injuries. Hundreds of families and children in the affected areas lost their homes. The death toll is still rising, and hundreds of children are at risk of losing parental care.

SOS Children’s Villages is on the ground in Morocco assessing the most pressing needs and deploying urgent support where it is needed most, although access to the affected areas is still difficult due to the rubble. This involves identifying children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it, as well as single-parent and vulnerable families.

The children and young people have been through a traumatic experience. There are four psychologists and two volunteers in the field to give them the psychological support they need.

OUR RESPONSE

SOS Children’s Villages is planning to launch an emergency programme to support children and families affected by the earthquake in Morocco.

  • With support from corporate partners, food and non-food items are being provided to affected families in Haouz and Taroudant.
  • Provide interim alternative care to children who have lost parental care, track down families  and, if possible, reunify children with their families.
